Kicking Defenses

DEFLECTING HAMMER (right sidekick)

1. With your feet together step back with your L foot toward 7:00 into a R neutral bow stance (to move out of the Line of Attack), while simultaneously executing a R downward diagonal block to the outside of your opponent’s R kicking leg. Your L hand checks at your solar plexus.
2. Without hesitation and while still in your R neutral bow, shuffle forward as your left hand checks opponent’s shoulder. Your right hand circles down & up for a R inward horizontal elbow strike to opponent?s face.

HUGGING PENDULUM (right sidekick)

1. As kick comes in, your L foot shuffles back to a R neutral bow to execute Line 1 of DEFLECTING HAMMER.
2. Immediately do a L front crossover as your R fist cocks horizontally across your body with your L checking opponent?s shoulder to deliver a R knife-edge kick to his L inner knee.
3. Plant your R foot forward and shoot a R horizontal back knuckle strike to opponent’s mastoid or posterior neck.  Arcing wide to the R, your R returns with a inward horizontal hooking palm heel claw to his face (maintain bend in your R elbow!) to turn his face inward and provide momentum for your R foot to move.
4. As your R foot steps to 10:00, spin to your L for a L outward horizontal heel claw to opponent?s face.
5. Step back with your L foot to 10:00 as your R middle knuckle punch strikes his temple (See BUCKLING BRANCH).
6. While continuing this circular motion, execute a R looping round kick down into opponent’s sternum.
7. Plant toward 10:00 and immediately pivot counterclockwise to shoot a L spinning knife-edge kick to his ribs or face.
8. Land in a L front crossover and cover out to 6:00.

RETREATING PENDULUM (deep step-behind sidekick)

1. While in a R neutral bow, your R foot steps behind into a L front twist stance. Simultaneously deliver a R downward block to opponent’s kicking leg and check with your L hand by your R shoulder.
2. Immediately deliver a R knife-edge sidekick to buckle opponent’s L inner knee as your L hand checks high.
3. Plant your R foot toward 12:00 as your hands circle counterclockwise and, without losing any motion, follow-up with a R overhead downward hammer fist to opponent’s neck.
4. Pivot to your L (into a R reverse bow) and deliver a R rear scoop kick between opponent?s legs to his groin then a R straight-leg reverse thrust to buckle his R inside knee and cause him to kneel.
5. Slide up into a close kneel stance to execute a L monkey fist strike to opponent’s groin from behind.
6. Stand up and shoot your R back knuckle into opponent?s L kidney.
7. Pivot into a R forward bow as your L palm heel strikes opponent?s L face.
8. Pivot to a R neutral bow as your R chop strikes the R side of his neck.
9.  Immediately follow with a R roundhouse kick to his face.  R crossover and cover out.

THRUSTING SALUTE (right front step-through kick)

1. While standing naturally with feet together, step back with your R foot (to 4:00) into a L neutral bow as you deliver a L downward block to the inside of opponent’s R kicking leg.
2. Have your L foot pivot counter-clockwise, in place, as you kick forward with the ball of your R foot to opponent’s groin. Your L hand checks high.
3. As you plant your R foot forward toward 11:00 (between opponent’s legs and into a R neutral bow), deliver a R torquing palm heel thrust up into opponent’s jaw while your L hand checks near your ribcage.
4. Your L foot steps across into a crossover stance as your L vertical punch strikes opponent?s mid-section.  As your feet unwind into a L neutral bow, shoot your L horizontal elbow across his R ribs.
5. Pivot into a L forward bow for your R forward punch to strike down into his stomach or groin.
6. Your R foot steps forward into a neutral bow as your R fist converts into a lifting backfist strike to his chin then a snapping diagonal punch to his throat.
7. Turn counter-clockwise to finish with a spinning L hook kick to the face.  Crossover and cover out.

BUCKLING BRANCH (front straight left kick)

1. While standing naturally with both feet together, step slightly back and to your R with your R foot to 5:00 (L neutral bow); simultaneously blocking opponent’s L kick (from the outside) with a R inward/L downward parry to spin him around.
2. Deliver a R front kick (as you pivot counter clockwise and in place with your L foot) to opponent?s groin (from the rear) while his back is toward you. Continue to keep your hands up in guard.
3. Plant your R foot (into a modified R front twist stance for purposes of torque) and deliver a L knife-edge kick to the inside of opponent’s R knee to buckle it to the ground. (Keep both your hands in guard.)
4. Your L heel plants just inside opponent?s L knee to off-balance him as you shoot a R hammer fist down to his chest.
5. Convert your R hammer fist into a back knuckle strike to his face followed by a L palm heel.
6. As opponent falls backward to ground, shoot a R middle-knuckle strike to the L side of his head.  Immediately, hop counter-clockwise for a R looping round kick down into his chest.  Cover out.

SWINGING PENDULUM (front right round kick)

1. Standing in a R neutral bow (fighting stance), slide your L foot counterclockwise to 4:00 and strike with a R inward block simultaneously with a L downward block (universal block) against opponent’s kicking R leg, preferably at the knee.
2. Shuffle (push drag) toward 11:00 for a R downward hammer fist to opponent’s groin before his kicking foot lands.
3. Shift your L foot counterclockwise to 3:00 for a R upward vertical (?obscure?) elbow strike to opponent’s jaw.
4. Immediately shoot your R foot back to 12:00 into a R reverse bow to buckle inside of opponent’s L leg as your R hand strikes down to groin again.
5. R foot steps out into a forward bow toward 9:00 as you execute a R upward stiff arm strike under his jaw.
6. Spin to face 3:00 into a R forward bow to buckle inside of his L leg with your L.
7. Pivot counterclockwise into a L neutral bow as you check his sternum with a L outward elbow converting to a L hand sword.
8. Continue pivoting into a L forward bow to execute a R palm strike to opponent’s jaw.
9. Follow through with your R palm strike so that it grabs (?shape of crane?) the back of opponent’s neck. As you pull down, execute a R knee kick to opponent’s groin or sternum.
10. Land back into a L neutral bow as you execute a L upward stiff arm strike to the underside of his jaw.
11. Execute a R inward claw to the R side of opponent’s face followed by a L outward hand sword to the L side of his neck as you step out into a L front crossover to 4:00.  Cross out and cover.
